In 2025, we’ve seen a shift in aspects of a wedding reception. Compared to weddings in the 90s, there are things we’ve noticed that are no longer making the cut – or, they’ve been reimagined. Let’s take a look at some of the most common things people are scrapping:
Bridal Party Entrances into Reception
Though this is still popular with a lot of couples, we have seen a rise in couples who prefer to do a Grand Entrance of just the two of them, as opposed to involving family and bridal party. This also helps speed up reception and get to the most important things – dinner and dancing!
Toasts/Speeches
There is one thing we consistently hear time and time again: We want enough dance floor time! In order to save time, couples are opting to have toasts and speeches at their rehearsal dinner and nixing the idea entirely for their wedding reception. This does allow for more time spent danicng, which is an easy decision in most couples’ eyes.
Garter Toss
In 2025, the garter toss is practically extinct. Many couples find it to be too dated and not quite their style for their reception, so we’ve seen this foregone entirely. Some grooms still want to do something special, so we’ve witnessed an uptick in football tosses, basketball tosses, and other replacements. However, many couples find having activities during reception to be uneccessary.
Bouquet Toss
We’ve seen many brides opt out of doing a bouquet toss. Instead, bouquet dedications have become a popular and meaningful alternative. With a lot of focus being on the bride’s dad with certain wedding day traditions (e.g. father/daughter dance, dad walking down the aisle), we’ve found this is a perfect option during reception for bride’s who want to honor their mother during.
Cake Cutting
One rising trend we’ve witnessed this year is an informal cake cutting. Many couples want their cake cutting to be during their dance floor with just the coordinator, photographer, and their parents, rather than a formal announcement that draws everyone to gather around.

Overall
There’s been movement away from elaborate productions, with direction towards a more intimate experience. Placing emphasis on small details and guest experience has started to replace the desire to have grand weddings.
